Now, Venice Beach is something different: although I never saw any proof, this part of Los Angeles - obviously got its name from Venice in Italy. In the 1900s, a wealthy tobacco mogul, Abbot Kinney developed the area to look like La Serenissima, its Italian counterpart. After acquiring the land, Kinney started its transformation by digging canals in the marshy land building Venice-styled architecture and bridges.
